Federal Science and Technical College Yaba (FSTC) Commissions Project.

The Federal Science and Technical College, Yaba, is one of the Federal Government Colleges established in 1948 with the vision to be the leading Science and Technical College in Nigeria, provide the needed Scientific, Technical and Vocational Education for discipline, self-reliant students, ready for the Industries and Tertiary Institutions and to ultimately satisfy all stakeholders. Whereas the mission statement is to produce an informed citizenry, equipped with appropriate, scientific, technical and vocational skills capable and willing to play expected roles for Socio-Economic Development of the individual and the Nation in General.

The core values of the school include Punctuality, Honesty and Diligence.

In a recent event marking the commissioning of the major projects of the Rev (Hon) Chris O. Ugorji lead Administration of the school which started in August 2014, four special projects were commissioned. These are:

  • 1200 Bed space (Staff Quarters) Girls Hostel built by PTA of 2014-2017 session
  • 500 units of 2-in-1 classroom furniture constructed by FSTC Yaba Management
  • 700 units of students individualized Equipment/Furniture by FSTC Yaba Management and
  • Renovation of the General Staff rooms.

According to the Director/Principal of the school in his opening address said the school, was devoid of what was needed to achieve the school’s vision and mission. What in fact characterized the academic atmosphere was inferior quality, best described as below average, but we were determined and resolute in our conviction to surmount the many challenges before us. But today, within the three years of the new Administration of Rev. Ugorji, the school can proudly say with all sense of propriety that she has not only banished those problems but has also enthroned discipline and responsibility as values which all students must attain.

He added that this stride has consequently rubbed off on the College’s academic performance as the school emerged in the 2014/15 academic session the first- runner up position and the winner’s top prize in 2015/16. The school was recognized and honoured in the last AGM for all Federal Government Colleges by Minister of State for Education with a total of 43 certificates to emerge overall winner in all external examinations, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and BECE certificates exams.

The FSTC Yaba is also doing well in sports and other social and co-curriculum activities organized by all Federal Government Colleges in the Country.

On the school developmental projects, the hitherto dilapidated infrastructural and instructional facilities in the college have now been given a facelift. The college now boasts of rendering quality educational experience with the most modern facilities and examination halls are now fully equipped with 500 (2 in 1) Unit furniture and 700 individual unit furniture respectively.

However, despite these recent developmental strides of the  school, yet the institution still faces some challenges, such as: densely populated classrooms, due to inadequate classrooms for learning, inadequate hostel accommodation for students, a small and ill-equipped science laboratory and the problem of epileptic power supply among others.

The Principal Rev (Hon) Chris O. Ugorji is herein calling on the Federal Government and the Ministry of Education in particular to come to their rescue. He did not fail to applaud the effort of the 2014-2017 PTA body under the chairmanship of Mrs Obiageli Rose Igwilo as chairperson.

In attendance at the commissioning were Representatives of the Minister of State for Education and Senior Members of the Federal Ministry including eminent members of the parents body.
