Lagos State – Celebrating 50th Years Anniversary, A Landmark In Retrospect.

    Lagos state is 50th, yes it was this same period that Nigeria had her civil war, dated back to May 27th 1967 which pen ultimately marked the creation of the state by decree of the Gown administration.

    The celebration was unique as numerous programs were lined – up for the anniversary. In an approach for orderliness, the programs were lined – up into divisions, namely Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe. Each has a month to celebrate the founding of the state.

    In addition said the commissioner for information Steve Ayorinde, “Equally more important, is the fact that we have succeeded in typing the year – long anniversary as a monthly show that symbolically revolved around the 27th of every month since may last year”, he asserted.

    Speaking further the commissioner for information, Steve Ayorinde remarked that, Lagos was celebrated at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival with eight films in September last year. The program had a world press conference during which the activities of the state were outlined, commencing Saturday April 8th – Saturday, May 27th 2017.

    The activity will crown the yearlong celebration in 50days. It was remarkable because KAKADU FELA Shrine was inclusive in the event, the Boat Regatta in Epe, Badagry and Lagos Island plus the Eyo – Adamu Orisha festival also was 50th comedians will mount the stage on the world Laughter Day.

    A two – day International conference has been slated, and the Presidential Lodge in Marina had been bequeathed to Lagos by President Buhari. In a lucid prose of all the states created in 1967 by General Yakubu Gowon, Lagos remained indivisible, is a blessed state.     Further, the Commissioner states “Lagos also holds the ace, is a state that does not reply on oil to prosper, yet the creator finds her worthy to be counted among oil producing states.

    The IGR is bigger than those of 3 states and bigger than country like Kenya and Ghana. It is Nigeria’s and ECOWAS Creature hub.

    While shedding light on citizen’s participation, said he, “It’s a celebration for the people, especially the knowledgeable men and women who have contributed to making Lagos the cynosure of all eyes.

    Others event include past governors, special legislative session at the House of Assembly, current lawmakers at the senate and House of Rep and Special Judicial Session are on one commemorate the event.

    When asked by Journalists at the World Press Conference on the journey so far, since the capital has been moved to Abuja, in the last 20th year, remains developing state and the budget, performance has always looped 75% to 80% in the last three years. Lagos remained an ideal cosmopolitan city that has given hope and succor too many at a time the country is experiencing some dire straits “he remarked.

    According to the commissioner, the governor has been committed to development plan, paying great attention to all four pillars of development as they effect the economy security and environment.

    In summation the commissioner stretched the important that as an oil producing state, IGR will account for 100% of its revenue such that Lagos will hardly depend on Abuja on monthly allocation.

    While the Governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode is running a government of inclusiveness thus no aspect is neglected in its developmental strides. The state has blazed the trail in community security through the recently launched Neighborhood Safety Corporations, he remarked that when you hear the Governor about channelizing the waterways and expanding the jetties, opening new Bet corridor in Abule Egba to Marina proposing a 10 – lane super highway from Oshodi to International Airport Working on 3000 megawatts of electricity, creating a new small city within Ibeju Lekki with Airport and with her population of 21 million people gives signal that Lagos will soon become a modern city, with all developmental strategies being addressed by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode no  doubt brings to memory the story of Lagos as MEGA CITY of Nigeria and Africa.
